Travel agents face charges after customer complaints in Mississauga and Brampton

Three people and two businesses face charges connected to customer complaints about travel services.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario has laid a total of 26 charges against two businesses and three individuals, the council said in a press release.

RM Legal & Business Services Inc. faces five counts of operating as a travel agent without being registered. The address for this business is 4283 Village Centre, Mississauga.

Two people connected with the business also face charges. Bobby Singh faces five counts of operating as a travel agent without being registered.

Rajsri Modhvadia faces five counts of operating as a travel agent without being registered and five counts of being an officer and director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.

Canaxis Immigration Solutions Inc., located at  3 Strathearn Ave., Brampton, faces two counts of operating as a travel agent without being registered, the Travel Industry Council of Ontario said.

Gurpreet Kaur, who is listed as director of Canaxis Immigration Solutions Inc., faces two counts of operating as a travel agent without being registered and two counts of being an officer and director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.

The charges are related to domestic and international travel services, including airfare, the Travel Industry Council of Ontario said in the press release. Payments were allegedly taken from customers but the travel services were not provided.

The council said it has received consumer complaints against Bobby Singh, Rajsri Modhvadia and Gurpreet Kaur.

There is one complaint with the Better Business Bureau against RM Legal & Business Services Inc. A customer alleges they paid $3,250 for two economy class airlines tickets for March 9 but they never received the tickets or a refund.

None of the charges have been proven in court.

Bobby Singh, Rajsri Modhvadia and Gurpreet Kaur will appear in court on Sept. 24, 2024, at 9 a.m. at 950 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W. in Mississauga, Ontario.

Individuals convicted in court of offences relating to the Travel Industry Act, 2002 are subject to fines of up to $50,000 and/or prison terms of up to two years. Corporations are subject to fines of up to $250,000.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario regulates Ontario’s approximately 1,925 travel agencies, booking websites and tour operators, and administers the Travel Industry Act, 2002 on behalf of the Ontario government.

As a consumer protection organization, TICO facilitates a consumer complaints process and administers the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund.
